Stockholm is globally renowned for its innovation capacity. With a flourishing start-up scene and a strong academic presence in the Stockholm Trio - SU, KTH and KI - the city is the perfect growing grounds for deep tech initiatives. SMH aims to unite the outstanding materials science excellence within the Stockholm Trio labs and create a display window to the innovative SME’s and start-ups in the city.

SMH was established 2019 in the three years project funded by European regional development fund coordinated by Tillväxtverket. The aim was to strengthen the connection between small and medium size enterprises at Stockholm region and the excellent material science research at the three universities in Stockholm. SMH has been coordinated by Stockholm university and has organized annual networking events and scientific workshops.

The three-year project ended in 2023 but the SMH continues its work with networking, workshops and as a contact point for research expertise in material science in Stockholm region and in Sweden. It is still coordinated by Stockholm University and activities are financed by current projects.
